Introducing….Dhamma Projects

Goenka’s Organization (GO) – teaches Vipassana Meditation As Taught By S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin.

Living Vipassana (LV) – is a blog independent to GO that allows old students to share their inspirational stories. It is a space for old students to share and discuss how Vipassana is impacting their life. It also provides a resource for old students to connect with serious meditators to provide support as they try and establish a daily practice.

Dhamma Projects (DP)– will be a new feature within LV. Its focus will be to discuss, document, celebrate and where possible enable activities that integrate the practice and principles behind Vipassana out of the centre and into the world of the householder.

Its aim will be to become a catalyst to connect meditators within the Vipassana community worldwide to come together more whether in person or online, to conduct projects that integrate and spreads Dhamma in the every day mundane world.

How it Could Work

Think Dhamma Service. Would it be possible for the structure and emphasis on Dhamma that servers experience during a course be applied to a not for profit venture outside of a Vipassana Centre?

Dependent on the volition, time and experience of the individual, they could help Dhamma projects happen by either by taking a leading or supporting role.

What could participants want from a Dhamma project?

  • To encourage Dhamma/ to help Dhamma grow
  • Manpower
  • Materials
  • Equipment
  • Guidance/Advice
  • Moral Support
  • Help with fund raising
  • To connect with other meditators
  • To decide which project gets their support
  • Sila environment
  • To work along side other meditators
  • Transparency from all parties
  • To gain experience that could lead to paid work

Examples of Dhamma Projects

Living Vipassanais a great example of an enterprise that brings together meditators worldwide to inspire growth in dhamma online.

Dhamma Sheddemonstrates what a Vipassana community in the UK did by coming together in person.
